Sameer Hasija is Professor and Area Chair of Technology and Operations Management, INSEAD. Sameer’s teaching focuses on using a process lens to understand new levers of innovation. Using a systematic analysis of processes within and across firm boundaries, he emphasizes the role of process-based innovation in creating new business models and/or fresh competitive positioning for existing models.
In This Episode:
- Businesses can be burned by disruptions. This has never been more evident than during the pandemic. Sameer and his colleagues’ process, The Phoenix Encounter Method, was designed to address those disruptions.
- Leaders have to make changes in their thinking, mindset, and attitudes to sustain their businesses. Considering radically different approaches opens the door to new ways of doing business.
- It’s important for leaders to involve all stakeholders in a change process, embedding a new way of doing things.
Leaders know what’s made them successful, and tend to apply that learning to the future direction of their company. With that fixed mindset, plus the fact that making big change happen is never easy, necessary disruption may not happen. Sameer Hasija and his colleagues have developed a method designed to inspire leaders to shift their thinking and mindsets to make the changes necessary for sustainable success. It’s a thought experiment that allows radical new ideas to be developed and explored. In this interview, we get the inside story on this method, and how leaders need to develop themselves and involve their stakeholders to embrace strategic decisions necessary to survive disruptions like the pandemic and beyond.
