This Video Challenge has been a roller coaster! Now that I’ve done 8 videos since the Challenge began, I’m feeling a little more comfortable. Today, Day 5, I did my first Facebook Live using my iPhone. It’s the weekend, and I am an advocate of taking personal time, but this was too good an opportunity to miss. It was a chance to show something new, and a chance to share a little about myself, since the video was from a retreat for the board of a non-profit that I’m part of.
So, just as I was getting a little comfortable, discomfort! This Challenge is nothing if not the discovery of how many edges are in me around video and visibility. Exploring them has been a revelation and sometimes scary.
I realized something else too. For me, it’s helpful to make a big move, like the 30-day Challenge. I have a strong work ethic, but I’m just not nearly as inspired by incremental change. When I’m inspired by a big vision, I will move mountains!
That may be true for you too. Or you may do better with continuous, small changes.
Whatever works for you, be aware of it. Use that awareness to allow yourself to be pulled forward towards your goals and your vision in a way that is effective – for you.
Now for the stats update:
Overall, engagement and organic reach on my Work Alchemy Facebook page are up quite a bit. That’s interesting, because Facebook recently changed their algorithm and organic reach was expected to drop. I have a lot more activity on my page, with more posts, primarily video, which Facebook’s algorithm is programmed to love. I’ve also run a couple of low-cost ads to my page visitors over the last year. So the combination of all those things is likely the cause of the jump in organic reach.
The launch video of the Video Challenge got a lot of views, with the help of an ad I ran for 4 days at $2 a day: 554 reach, 378 engagement, for a cost per click (CPC) of $0.02.
I also ran an ad of my first update (Day 2) blog post that is still underway: 289 reach, with a CPC of $1.14. Despite the “high” CPC by the standards of those who aim for 1 or 2 cents, at this point it’s worth it to me to pay $1 to connect with more people.
Facebook page Likes: +4, Follows: +6
The Work Alchemy YouTube channel, which I only launched 2 weeks ago, has a total of 65 views of 6 videos. One video about impact that I created just for YouTube and did not promote has had no views yet. A video I created 2 weeks ago about procrastination has 35 views.
I’ve had more website visits and added 4 email subscribers. I expected more of a response to the Video QuickStart Guide as a stimulus for new subscribers. I wonder if the Guide is enough of a draw to get past the double opt-in I have in place.
One thing I’m finding is that I’m tracking so many things that it’s more challenging to know what to report to you. I don’t want to hit you with a deluge of numbers, so I’m working on ways to simplify reporting.
The private Facebook group I created is growing steadily, though still small. I decided to add additional resources there, and two people with special expertise have stepped up to offer their support to the group, which has been great. If you want to join for big support and more resources, let me know in the comments!
Quick summary: I’m pleased with the increased engagement and surprised by the organic reach on Facebook. I’m also exploring Instagram, a new platform for me. I’ll keep you posted.
Today’s the day of the Women’s March, and looking to that for inspiration, I’m cheering you on, dear women entrepreneurs! Let’s get visible and have real impact!
